When replacing spark plugs, ensuring that the plug has the proper gap is critical to engine performance.
The gap is the distance between the centre electrode and side ground electrode.
This is set so arcing occurs at the proper voltage for the engine which ignites the fuel air mix and generates the combustion pressure to push the piston down.
If the spark plug gap is set wrong, it can lead to engine running issues.
You may experience loss of power, misfires, spark plug fouling, increased plug wear, or poor fuel economy.
A small gap may give too weak of a spark to complete or start the combustion process within the engine; too wide of a gap can lead to the spark plug not firing correctly, causing misfires at high speeds.
